The multi-phased scheme on Redcliff Street sees a comprehensive modernisation of 14 floors, construction of a new floor at roof level and complete rebuilt of the reception area.
A huge undertaking with the existing tenant remaining in the space during the process.
Formerly known as Robinson Building and built in 1964, as a headquarter for paper and packaging manufacturer E.S. & A. Robinsons, it was the first high rise building in Bristol to ‘break an unofficial height limit’ of 30.5 m ( 100ft)
The multi-phased scheme at One Redcliff Street sees ISG comprehensively modernising the entire 14-storey building and remodelling the main reception area, while existing tenants remain in occupation. Net lettable space will be increased by over 10 percent to 95,800 sq ft with the construction of a new floor at roof level to create a suite of high-specification meetings rooms.
Approached by consultants at Buro Happold in April 2015 with an open specification for the 15th floor, we worked closely with the design team from the very early stages. Full lighting design, reflected ceiling plan and calculations for the entire floor were created to support the proposed layout.

299 Lighting also worked alongside the office fit-out specialists Interaction, making sure the lighting would complement the corporate workplace focused on cross-team collaboration.
For the first phase of the project and the fitout of the brand new extension space on the 15th floor, quality LED downlights with dropped glass were used as the main luminaire in circulation areas and corridors.
In the meeting rooms, Xicato downlights were specified for a clean minimalist look. High CRI of 90+ and smooth dimming has delivered a professional lighting scheme with comfortable ambiance. In the breakout space, the slim linear profile Leck was installed in between the wooden rafts in a random pattern. This brings a contemporary and informal feel to the space.
To further enhance the impressive 4.9m diameter main reception desk in the open plan office, the large suspended ring shaped luminaire Ouse was used. It appears to be floating in the space and thanks to its uniquely designed diffuser it can be admired from any angle. The 2m diameter Ouse in matte black finish creates a strong focus point in the space.
Work is currently commencing on the phase 2 project, focusing on completely remodelling the reception area. We really enjoyed visiting the site recently and seeing the finished 15th floor whilst enjoying the finest views of Bristol. The team at 299 is very excited to see this large project progressing, and certainly becoming one of the top office locations in Bristol.
